It was my first time working on a design system that contains more than hundreds of symbols, colors, and typography. We took inspiration from design systems like Material design, Fluent, Shopify's Polaris, Atlassian, Airbnb, Uber were all already established systems and had built great products.
We mainly started focusing on the basic building blocks of the design system.
We picked blue as the primary color as blue is more associated with calm and peacefulness and we wanted the same feel for the photographer. Brighter colors are used to convey meaning. Red is for warnings and alerts. Other tertiary colors are for different scenarios.
I've chosen Inter font, which is extremely breathable and non-fatiguing while still looking fantastic and it has high legibility.
